Although I was not impressed with Mal or Alina, I still recommend The Grisha Trilogy. If Zoya and Nikolai were the main characters, the trilogy would have been flawless.
A group of kids prank call random people, whose names are listed in an ancient device known as a “phonebook”; they try to keep people on the line for as long as possible. Lorraine, secretly peeking at the names, calls an old dude named Angelo Pignati. Lorraine and John decide to meet Mr. Pignati, with whom they develop a friendship.
