Books That Make Even the Baddest Bitches Cry

It’s hard to make me cry. Yo bitch did not cry at the Fault in Our Stars and yo bitch did not cry at Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2. My friends say I’m a robot, but in reality, I’m just an emotionless piece of shit (which is basically a robot, but I still have living organs, and need food to survive). I’m not a bitch that cries at everything, so the books on this list have really achieved something extraordinary.

There will be spoilers in this post, so if you haven’t read the book, don’t read the little paragraph next do it. I still want you to see which book I’m talking about, though, because I highly recommend reading all of these. Read the book, come back, and see if we cried for the same reasons.

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

When Nobody leaves the graveyard, I felt the same way as I did watching the final scene in Mary Poppins. He had such a magical and amazing experience, and it’s over now. I hated the idea that he would no longer be able to see the dead, with whom he grew up, and that he would no longer have his ghost powers. I hope he runs into Silas a lot in his adult life. It depresses me to see things that were once so pure and awesome come to an end.

Shadow Kiss and Blood Promise by Richelle Mead

Shadow Kiss and Blood Promise are the third and fourth books in the Vampire Academy series, which is an all-time favorite series of mine. Rose and Dimitri are two of my favorite characters ever, and Rose’s determination at the end of Shadow Kiss to save Dimitiri is heart breaking. When Rose decides she has to kill him, I lost it. Blood Promise had me bawling when Rose is telling stories and drinking with Dimitri’s family, whom she has never met, during his memorial.

The Book Thief Markus Zusak

If you’ve read the book, you know what I cried over. Hans Hubermann was the nicest man in the world, and he did not deserve what happened to him. He reminds me of a neighbor I had a long time ago, who was in his nineties, and dressed up as Santa Claus each Christmas for all of the kids in our village.

A Thousand Splendid Suns Khaled Hosseini

This book was spoiled for me, so I knew it was going to be sad. I love books with friendship as a central theme, and Laila and Mariam’s bond over their situation at Rasheed’s house runs deep. Platonic friendships warm my heart even more than romantic ones. I cried when Mariam sacrifices her life to save Laila, because it emphasizes Laila’s importance in Mariam’s life.

We Were Liars E. Lockhart

This one fucked me up. Big time. It was about 10pm. I had to be at work by six, but I only had twenty pages left. I went into We Were Liars completely blind, so the twist caught me completely by surprise. These other books brought a tear to my eye, but this one made me straight up sob. I got no sleep that night, and the next morning I deliriously told my coworkers to read this book.

Do you cry often while reading? What books made you cry?

  1. The Book Thief made me so emosh!!

However, Me Before You by Jojo Moyes is probably the one that has gotten me the worst. That book gave me all the feels!! I was sat on a busy commuter train, squashed into a corner, crying all over my iPad…and not one singe f**k was given!
